How to rename an eBay variation name

Change a variation option’s name on an existing listing using FASTTOO Variation Editor. You can preview the change for free before submitting it to eBay.

What does “variation name” mean?

A variation name is the label customers use to choose an option, such as Model, Colour or Size.

For example:

  • Current name: Model
  • Replacement name: Phone Model
  • Existing values: For iPhone 15, For iPhone 16

This changes the name, not the individual option values. Values, prices, stock quantities and SKUs are preserved.

Before you start

You will need:

  • A FASTTOO Variation Editor account.
  • Your eBay seller account connected to the app.
  • The eBay item ID for a listing owned by that seller account.
  • An available paid credit or eligible free trial credit to confirm the update.

Fetching a listing and previewing a rename are free. eBay’s category and listing rules still apply, so not every replacement name will be accepted.

Step 1: Connect your eBay account

Sign in to FASTTOO Variation Editor.

If your seller account is not connected, select Connect eBay and follow eBay’s instructions to grant access. Check that you connect the seller account that owns the listing.

Step 2: Find your listing

  1. Open Editor.
  2. Enter the listing’s eBay item ID.
  3. Select Fetch listing.
  4. Check the listing title, seller and variation details to make sure you have loaded the correct item.

Use the item number—not a SKU or order number.

Step 3: Choose the name to change

Under Choose one attribute:

  1. Choose the existing name from Attribute to rename.
  2. Enter the new label in Replacement name.

The replacement name can contain up to 50 characters. Choose a clear name that accurately describes the options.

This editor changes one variation name on one listing at a time.

Step 4: Preview the rename

Select Preview rename (free).

In Review this change, check:

  • Current: the existing variation name.
  • Becomes: your replacement name.
  • Any warnings or additional information shown.

Nothing has changed on eBay yet. If something is wrong, select Cancel, no charge and prepare another preview.

If the preview expires, prepare a fresh one before confirming.

Step 5: Confirm the update

When you are satisfied, select:

  • Confirm Update — 1 Credit, or
  • Confirm Update — Free trial credit, if offered.

A credit is reserved when you confirm. It is consumed only after the app verifies the rename with eBay. A definitive failure releases the reserved credit.

Wait for the result before submitting another update.

Step 6: Check the result

Read the result shown in the editor. After a verified rename, the app refreshes the listing details from eBay.

You can also open Activity History to review the operation and check the listing directly on eBay.

If the result is pending or unconfirmed, check Activity History before trying again. An uncertain result does not necessarily mean the update failed.

Common questions

Why is my replacement name rejected?

The name may conflict with an existing variation name or a name already present in the listing’s Item specifics. eBay may also restrict variation names for that category.

Read the error message and choose a suitable alternative. The app does not automatically remove or change Item specifics to make a rename possible.

Can I change the option values?

Not with this rename feature. It changes the label—for example, Model to Phone Model—rather than values such as For iPhone 15.

Can I preview without credits?

Yes. Fetching and previewing are free. You need an available credit to confirm the update.
