Before you rename a variation

Check your listing, variation names, eBay restrictions and available credits before confirming a rename with FASTTOO Variation Editor.

A few checks before you start can help you choose the correct listing and avoid an unsuitable rename. Use this checklist before confirming a change with FASTTOO Variation Editor.

1. Understand what you are changing

A variation name is an option label such as Model, Colour or Size. Its values are the choices shown beneath that label.

For example:

  • Current variation name: Model
  • Proposed replacement: Phone Model
  • Existing values: For iPhone 15, For iPhone 16

This is an example, not a guarantee that eBay will accept that replacement for your listing. The editor renames one variation attribute on one listing at a time. It is not a tool for changing individual option values, prices, stock quantities or SKUs.

2. Check the connected seller account

Make sure the eBay account connected to the app owns the listing you want to update. If you manage more than one seller account, check the connected seller before fetching the item.

If the app asks you to reconnect eBay, complete that step before continuing. Do not share your eBay password or verification codes with anyone.

3. Check the item ID and listing details

Enter the eBay item ID, not a SKU or order number. After selecting Fetch listing, check the listing title, seller and existing variation names.

Only continue if these details match the listing you intend to change. If no variation attributes are returned, do not assume the item can be renamed through this feature.

4. Choose a clear replacement name

Use a name that accurately describes the existing options. The replacement can contain up to 50 characters.

  • Check spelling and remove accidental spaces.
  • Do not use a name already used by another variation attribute in the listing.
  • Check whether the proposed name already appears in the listing’s Item specifics.
  • Do not assume a name accepted on one listing will be accepted in another category.

If the app reports a conflict with Item specifics, choose a suitable alternative. This rename feature does not automatically remove or change Item specifics.

5. Allow for eBay’s rules

eBay controls which variation names and revisions are allowed for a listing and its category. A listing that already contains variations is not a guarantee that every proposed rename will be accepted.

Read any validation message before continuing. If the app cannot complete a required check, wait or resolve the reported issue rather than repeatedly submitting the same change.

6. Review the change before confirming

Select Preview rename (free) and check the Current and Becomes names. Read any warnings or information about variation pictures.

Fetching and previewing do not change your listing on eBay. A preview is not a guarantee that the final revision will succeed. If the preview is incorrect, select Cancel, no charge. If it expires, prepare a fresh preview.

Avoid making other changes to the listing while reviewing or submitting a rename. If you have edited it elsewhere, fetch the current details and prepare a fresh preview before continuing.

7. Understand how credits are used

You can fetch listings and preview renames without spending a credit. To confirm an update, you need an available paid credit or an eligible free trial credit.

  • When you confirm: a credit is reserved for that operation.
  • After a verified successful rename: the credit is consumed.
  • After a definitive failure: the reserved credit is released.
  • If the result is uncertain: the credit may remain reserved while the outcome is checked.

Read the credit information in the review panel before selecting Confirm Update.

8. Know what to do after submitting

Wait for the result and read the status shown by the app. After a verified rename, the editor refreshes the listing details from eBay.

If the result is pending or unconfirmed, open Activity History and check the existing operation before trying again. Do not assume a timeout means the rename failed: eBay may already have received the update.

Quick pre-rename checklist

  • The connected eBay seller owns the listing.
  • The item ID and listing title are correct.
  • You are changing an option name, not its values.
  • The replacement is clear and does not conflict with existing names.
  • You have read the preview and any warnings.
  • You understand the credit shown before confirmation.
  • You have checked any previous pending attempt before submitting again.
